About Philip Moran
Phil Moran is recognised as one of Australia's finest classical guitarists, admired for his captivating solo recitals, concerto performances, and collaborations with leading artists. Known for his superb musicianship, warm tone, and engaging stage presence, he has delighted audiences across Australia and abroad.
Acheivements
A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Phil majored in guitar performance under Gregory Pikler, graduating with merit and being named Student of the Year. He went on to refine his artistry in England and Spain, studying with Timothy Walker, Gordon Crosskey, and Carlos Bonnell, and attending masterclasses with legendary guitarist John Williams.
In 1983, he won first prize in the inaugural Australian Guitar Competition, establishing his reputation as a leading performer.
Phil's career highlights include a debut solo recital at the Sydney Opera House, guest concerto appearances with orchestras such as the Sydney Youth Orchestra under maestro Tommy Tycho, and a sold-out recital for the Hunters Hill Music Club with flutist Jane Rutter. He has also performed with violinist Martin Lass, tenor Ronald Stevens, the London Contemporary Dance Theatre, and the Bennelong Players.
His recordings, Spanish Inspiration (2003) and Hasta Mañana (2009), received wide acclaim and frequent broadcasts on ABC Classic FM. His rendition of La Paloma was featured nationally on ABC Radio's Australia All Over and voted one of the Top Ten Favourite Pieces of 2010.


Teaching
Alongside his performing career, Phil is a passionate educator. He runs a private guitar studio in Molong and continues to mentor the next generation of musicians. He also enjoys performing on electric guitar with a variety of professional show bands. Whether on stage, in the studio, or in the classroom, Phil Moran brings dedication, artistry, and a love of music that continues to inspire audiences and students alike.
